 what this is

Until recently this was still a working professional
contemporary classical composer's website, but I've
   decided to change its focus.

For a variety of reasons it has become almost an
impossibility to have the kind of full working life as a
composer that I once enjoyed. The disappearance of
   sustained performance, grant, and commission
opportunities and trying to engage with uncertain
musical terrain have led me to think that what I need
now is a 'repository' for my musical activity. The aim
is to preserve my music so it might have chance of being
accessed if and when interest in this kind of work
   resurfaces.

This site will eventually include all that's needed for these
pieces to be performed (excepting money that is): revised,
definitive scores along with performance materials and
instrumental parts – all available for free. There will also
be new music as (or if) I write it, information on various
matters and I'll also continue to put out recordings
as and when I can afford to.

I don't want to withdraw works – where would I put
   them? But
the quality of my output is, of course, variable.
So rather than banish pieces I’m listing all of them under

   unfiltered
and then again split into four categories:

pretty good, not so bad, not so good, and pretty bad.
Most of the last are early works, but there are some
more recent dogs in there too
. Others – who knows –
might upend these quality-control decisions and find jewels
in the mudheap or duds masquerading as marvels.

For now I'm leaving pretty bad as is, but perhaps at a
later date some of these pieces can be resuscitated.
   Vocal
, Choral and Solo are complete. Next I'll work on
   Chamber with Voice
, then we'll see, and I'll work on
Fabrications as a separate project once all the rest is
   done.
