PROGRAM NOTE
In Bubble I wanted write a work that was deliberately inconsequential. I don't mean a meaningless or trivial work but one which didn't proceed by developing musical material. What you hear—at least on the surface—is what you get. The basic materials are quite plain and the form of the piece comes from repeating these elements, bringing them closer together, and sometimes juxtaposing them. Most apparent at the start are some little scale patterns which will also close the piece. There are also passages of repeated chords or repeated pitches; always circling, never arriving. Never quite arriving—yet—is actually what Bubble is about.
