TEXTS
The Good Moolly Cow

Come! supper is ready
Come! boys and girls now,
For here is fresh milk
From the good moolly cow.

Have done with your fife
And your row de dow Dow,
And taste this sweet milk
From the good moolly cow.

Whoever is fretting
must clear up his brow,
Or he'll have no milk
From the good moolly cow.

And here is Miss Pussy;
She means by mee ow,
Give me too some milk
From the good moolly cow.

When children are hungry,
Oh who can tell how
They love the fresh milk
From the good moolly cow.

So when you meet moolly
Please say, with a bow,
“Thank you for your milk,
Mrs. Good Moolly Cow.”
Eliza Follen (1787–1860)

Heaven

Oh who will show me those delights on high
I (echo)
Thou Echo, thou art mortall, all men know
No.
Wert thou not born among the trees and leaves?
Leaves.
And are there any leaves that still abide?
Bide.
What leaves are they? impart the matter wholly
Holy.
Are holy leaves the Echo then of blisse?
Yes.
Then tell me, what is that supreme delight?
Light.
Light to the minde: what shall the will enjoy?
Joy.
But are there cares and businesse with the pleasure?
Leisure.
Light, joy, and leisure; but shall they persever?
Ever
George Herbert (1593–1633)

The Mouse's Lullaby

Oh, rock-a-by, baby mouse, rock-a-by, so!
When baby's asleep to the baker´s I'll go,
And while he's not looking I´ll pop from a hole,
And bring to my baby a fresh penny roll.
Palmer Cox (1840–1924)
